Jaan Rääts has been an active leader of cultural and social life.
Jaan Rääts is the founder of the oldest Estonian Music Festival in Estonia (Estonian Music Days since 1991) in 1979. Jaan Rääts was a founding member of the Cultural Council of ENSV Creative Unions in 1987 and a member of the council, 1.-2. one of the preparers and facilitators of the plenum of creative associations held until April 1988. Rääts was a member of the ENE collegium, a member of the collegium of the cultural newspaper "Sirp ja Vasar", the founder of the Estonian Authors' Association and a signatory of the declaration of the Estonian Authors' Association, the magazine "Teater. Music. Kino", one of the founders, a member of the main committee of the Song and Dance Festival, a member of the ENSV Ministry of Culture's collegium and member of many other organizing committees of cultural events.
